TASCAM iXZ iPhone 4 interface problem!

Do you have one of these? Are you trying to use it with an iPhone 4? Well, I have been for the past 4 days and its been a heaping pile of fail. Long story short... I couldn't get it working at all so I emailed TASCAM asking what I was doing wrong. It took a couple days but they got back to me and had this to say...

Todd,

Are you using an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4s?

There is a known issue with the iXZ and the iPhone 4/4s metal chassis, they create a metal to metal contact that cancels out the signal. We have a fix for that that I can send to you if you provide a physical address.

The reason I'm posting this is because I spent hours scouring the internet to see what was wrong and found it nowhere. So, here it is for all you peeps that have been pulling your hair out over why the f*ck this thing ain't workin, hopefully I just saved you from a headache.

Contact TASCAM using the info above and get the little part you need. I'll update this post as soon as I get mine to let y'all know if it works.

Rebuild of Evangelion

I just got finished watching 1.11, which was released here in America on dvd this past March; and 2.22 which was just released on dvd in Japan a couple weeks ago. 1.11 was great, an excellent re-telling of the first few episodes. 2.22... jesus was this intense... absolutely stunning in places. A major rewrite from the original but superbly done. There really is no reason to watch the original episodes anymore. So for any and all Eva fans that haven't seen these yet, see them... NOW.

So that being said, after finishing 2.22 I was salivating for any info I could find on the next two (3.0 and 4.0) and found out a few tidbits. Both 3.0 and 4.0 will be released together according to the insert that came with the 1.11 special edition dvd. Also from the buzz on the interwebs, they will not be waiting a full two years like they did between 1.0 (2007) and 2.0 (2009). Also I found this link, which if you happen to be visiting Japan, this is a must see once complete. Lastly here is the Rebuild of Evangelon Wikipedia link for anyone that has no idea what I'm talking about.

Banksy rat in Detroit

Renowned graffiti artist Banksy has been in Detroit in the last few weeks and has left behind 4 works of art!

But sadly, out of the four this little guy is the only one that remains... What? The other three? Well, one was stolen, one was power washed off and one was detroyed in an attempt to steal it. I'd really like to say something negative about living around here but I can't without getting profoundly pissed off, so I won't. To see more about all of their fate click HERE. So anyhow that's the angry part...

The super cool happy part is being able to see this one in person. This is an extremely rare opportunity since Banksy is from the U.K. and I'm happy that at least one of them survived long enough for me to get out and see it. To be able to see one of his works in person out in the wild, it's just an amazing thing.

I actually managed to get out to see this on opening weekend! When I first saw the trailer last year I wasn't too impressed, but then I saw more tralers last week and was totally excited. But after remembering how terrible Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was I decided to lower my expectations for Alice. All said and done I loved the movie and will totally buy it once it comes out on dvd. It's one of those movies that I could easily watch over and over just because it's so visually fantastic and I love the story.

My personal critique tho (don't worry, no spoilers) is at times it seemed a bit disjointed from one scene to the next. Some times it moved so fast that it was hard to keep up. The cgi in some places seemed like it could've used a bit more tlc, but since the whole movie was cgi to begin with I suppose a few weak spots here and there are ok. There was barely any humor in the movie tho, which was a bit surprising to me.

The character design was fantastic! I love the Red Playing Cards! For real if there was a 12" statue of them out there I would buy it right now. Anne Hathaway and Johnny Depp obviously had a lot of fun with thier roles and when they were the main focus on screen, it really felt like watching a play. Tweedledee and Dum were a nice surprise too. They were mesmerizing to watch and their expressions were especially entertaining. By the way the image above is some concept art I found via Google. Now that I think about it I don't even know if it's official, but its pretty cool none the less.

I'm a bit late on sharing this but Mike Portnoy (of Dream Theater and Transatlantic) has filled in on the new A7X album after the passing of Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. The album was written but not recorded before The Rev died, so A7X approached Portnoy to lay down the tracks. The tracks have now officially been recorded and rumors floating around are saying this album will be out this summer. I can't imagine the emotion and passion behind this one and I doubt it will disappoint. Let's hope they can get Portnoy to tour with them now! They all marked the occasion by getting new tats...

Chevrolet re-branding

So if you've looked at the 2010 NAIAS Picasa album I put up, you may have noticed an emphasis on the Chevrolet display. Well, that's because yours truly and 3 others co-workers (who have easily become close friends) have been working on re-branding Chevy for more than the past year. All of these graphics, shapes, colors etc... have been defined by us and we fought tooth and nail to have it remain unchanged. Of course, at some point you have to pass your work off to someone else and, of course, they need to put their input in to feel like they're doing their job. BUT, with a few exceptions of "wtf did they do THAT for?!" this is largely the direction we set.

This is the new global standard for the Chevrolet website and this is exactly the direction we gave them. It's not the prettiest, craziest, most interactive flash site out there, but for the boundaries and restrictions placed upon us, I think we did a damn good job.

In my opinion, the biggest achievement in all of this is that we fought against the corporate machine that is GM and actually instituted change.

Industry Days at NAIAS 2010

I was fortunate enough to receive an industry day pass for the 2010 North American International Auto Show this year! This is exciting for two reasons: One, I've never been there during the industry days. Two, the Chevrolet display was heavily influenced by direction from the studio I've worked in for the past year and four months.

Finding new stuff is a love/hate thing

Last night I attended the customer appreciation party at Lift and while nom'ing on donuts, cookies and certain beverages provided they handed out xmas presents! I got an awesome Reach Bear (the yellow one) and while on the high of getting cool new stuff I started scouring the shop for more new stuff. I was soon rewarded because I found out about this guy, Cameron Tiede.
I've seen only one or two pieces from him before, but it seems he has a new series of toys called Tomodachi that look GREAT. Really unlike anything out there. So I researched a bit more once I got home and found all kinds of really cool stuff. So this is where the love/hate thing comes in. I love finding awesome new artwork that I've never even contimplated before but I hate that I gots no money to spend on it!

Freak Mechanique show at Lift in Royal Oak!

The good Doktor A had 27 original pieces of artwork on display at Lift in Royal Oak last night. I was expecting to see some nice pieces, but having never seen any of Dok's art in person I could easily say I was stunned at how intricate and beautiful they all were. I checked this afternoon and it looks like he had a good amount of success because almost half of the works are sold! They ranged from $150 to $1500 so he made a fair amount of coin.

It's not an easy market out there trying to sell what some people would call "non-essentials" to live, but I'm glad he could make a few bucks. IMO they are worth every penny and if I had cash to burn I would have tried to get one and start a fine art collection of my own. Check out my Picasa page to see the pics I took. It's officially official... even tho they've been in my personal top 5 for years, Thrice is now my most favorite band. Listening to their new album is what did it, for it does not disappoint. Between lyrics, instrumentation and everything in between it is simply flawless. Much like The Alchemy Index albums, it is somewhat non-classifiable and doesn't really fit a genre (which makes it that much better). It's so refreshing to see and hear how they've matured and progressed as musicians over the past few years. For this reason alone they command respect. Add contributing to various charities to that and they should have everyones attention as an example to follow.

Seeing the new Super Mario Bros Wii trailer reminds me of how stupid excited I was back in 1991 waiting for it to come out with the SNES. Which of course gets me stupid excited today waiting for it to come out for the Wii. Yknow the kind of stupid excited that thinks it's ok to spend $400 on a new system, accessories and games just to play one game. $400 thats not planned, while living on a set income and strict budget. I'm sure anyone reading this knows what a Munny is. Quite possibly the most attractive vinyl figure sculpted. Just looking at it makes you wanna touch it. It's shape, volume, weight, texture etc... everything is practically perfection. So why would you try to improve on perfection?

Here's a look at the new friends Munny is about to get. Am I wrong in thinking they've tarnished Munny's image?

Couldn't they have just made these instead? I'd buy these without question!

Then look at the pics I took today. I know a millon and one people have already blogged about the Detroit Train Depot, but just reading about it and looking at pics online don't do it justice.

There are moments when I'm proud to call my hometown Detroit. There are moments when I'm thankful that there are run down places like this to explore. The moment after watching that video however, was neither. I'm not gonna rant about corruption and the evils of the world, but god damn... the pure beauty that this place used to be takes your breath away. And then to see that people have destroyed it much more than Mother Nature has almost makes me sick.

I would encourage anyone who is capable to see this work of art to do so now, while you can. Get a glimpse into the past of how beautiful this city once was.
